#FLOSFriday is when we reminisce on the illustrious 33 years with The Former Ladies of The Supremes. Today we look back to October of 2014. Scherrie Payne, Lynda Laurence and Joyce Vincent were invited to Hamburg, Germany to perform at The Baltic Soul Gala. This was the Ladies' 3rd Baltic Soul event and the Ladies have continued to be invited back, most recently in May of 2019!
Scherrie, Susaye & Joyce perform Michael Jackson's classic "I Can't Help It," from his "Off The Wall" album at The Baltic Soul Weekender. This song was written by Susaye Greene and Stevie Wonder. Let us know in the comments what other songs you'd like to hear the ladies perform.
Scherrie & Susaye's "Supreme Sister" Lynda Laurence invited the Ladies to attend a special benefit concert at California State University Northridge featuring her son Trevor Lawrence Jr. (drummer) singer/entertainer Pattti Austin and special guest One80.
The event raised money for T.AD.W. (Teenage Drama Workshop) who's goal is to provide a high level of performing arts education for secondary school students. Young people work together with theatre professionals, theatre educators as well as university students to create theatre of the highest quality and caliber for young audiences.
The evening was titled "Be Bop To Hip Hop." and inovatively fused the two musical genres. The performance included jazz standards, hip hop classics and video presentations brilliantly composed to enlighten and engage the audience.
Trivia: Did you know that some of Trevor Lawrence Jr.s earliest gigs as a teenager were playing drums for The Former Ladies of The Supremes all over the world.
Scherrie Payne & Susaye Greene formerly of The Supremes with Joyce Vincent performed at La Voix's spring concert held at The Federal in North Hollywood, CA..
The evening was themed 1950's and 1960's and the students performed their favorite tunes from those eras. The finale of the evening was Freda Payne who performed "Alfie" and The Former Supremes who performed a medley of Supremes' hits including "Where Did Our Love Go," "Baby Love," and "Stop In The Name of Love."
La Voix vocal studio is owned and operated by Scherrie's daughter Shoshana Payne Philips and is a place where singers come to develop and improve their voices. Students learn how to use their voice by rehabilitating vocal issues, discover great techniques, eliminate vocal breaks, strengthen their voice, expand their range, gain power, balance, and control in their voice. Scherrie Payne, Susaye Greene and Joyce Vincent performed at The 13th annual Baltic Soul Weekender in Germany on May 10th 2019. This yearly event founded by DJ Dan Dombrowe offers a musical journey through the decades of soul, funk, house and disco. This years lineup also included Boney M, Odyssey, Eddie Holman, Ruby Andrews, Gloria Scott and more.
The Ladies' Friday night performance included The Supremes' 60's and 70's hits plus a few surprises including their new single "Unconditional Love." Dan Dombrowe had a special request of the ladies. This year he asked the ladies to include 2 songs co-wriiten by Susaye Greene, "Free" originally recorded by Deniece Williams and "I Can't Help It," by Michael Jackson. The audience roared with enthusiasm and appreciation for these unexpected jams. The Ladies performed the songs spectacularly with choreography by Scherrie's daughter Shoshana Payne Phillips.
Saturday afternoon the Ladies participated in the artist meet & greet, sat down for several interviews, and enjoyed the festivals offerings. Saturday night ended on a high note with the Ladies attending DJ Dan D's amazing performance followed by an exciting high energy show by Odyssey, which had the ladies dancing the night away!
This was the Ladies' 4th performance at a Baltic Soul event and we look forward to the next time! Dan Dombrowe and his Baltic Soul crew do everything top notch and truly appreciate their artists. We thank you all! And a special shout out to the amazing Baltic Soul Orchestra, you are amazing!!!! See you all again soon!
